New Journey | Rossum-Kawasaki Joint Venture Officially Established

On April 22, Rossum Robot and Kawasaki Robots held a signing ceremony to jointly establish Guangdong Ronsaki Robot Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Ronsaki Robot), announcing that the new firm will settle in Shunde Rhine Industrial Park.

The joint venture focuses on the R&D, production and sales of SCARA robots, 4-axis stamping robots and other models. Ronsaki Robot will complement Kawasaki’s product lineup, swiftly cater to domestic clients in 3C electronics and other sectors, and deliver cost-effective products and solutions.

Rossum Robot has partnered with Kawasaki Robotics of Japan since its inception. In 2013, China’s industrial robot market entered a period of vigorous growth. As Kawasaki was vigorously expanding its presence in China, the two sides quickly reached an agreement. Cooperation grew from manufacturing dozens of robots at first to hundreds and then thousands, fostering ever-closer ties.

Rapid growth in robot sales gradually expanded the scope of collaboration. The two parties explored joint projects covering automated robot production lines customized for home appliances, automotive components and complete vehicle factories. To date, Rossum and Kawasaki have maintained close cooperation for over eight years. Built on mutual trust and support, they pursue innovation and shared growth — the foundation and original aspiration behind the joint venture.

At the signing ceremony, Zhao Weifeng, Chairman of Rossum Robot, stated that Ronsaki will leverage complementary strengths of both Rossum Robot and Kawasaki Robotics to achieve a "1+1>2" effect. The establishment of the new company and launch of new products mark deeper all-round strategic cooperation between the two firms. Combining their strengths, they will deeply integrate industrial robots and system integration solutions to deliver more flexible, efficient and reliable automation solutions for customers worldwide.

Drawing on Kawasaki Robotics’ more than 50 years of experience in robot development and application, plus Rossum Robot’s long-standing local design expertise and mature supply chain, Ronsaki Robot is born with distinct technical and service advantages.

Built on Kawasaki’s robot control technology, Rossum and Kawasaki jointly develop robot kinematic algorithms and optimize servo parameters. Experts from Kawasaki’s headquarters in Japan will participate fully in the evaluation and verification of robot body design and component performance to guarantee product stability and reliability.

Furthermore, backed by Rossum’s years of technical experience in the domestic market, Ronsaki Robot can promptly capture shifting market demands after launch. Localized design, manufacturing and support enable rapid response to customer requirements.

Masayoshi Iwase, Chairman of Kawasaki Robotics, emphasized in his speech: Since Rossum Robot became a Kawasaki Robotics authorized distributor in 2014, Rossum has sold over 6,000 Kawasaki robots, making it a key partner for Kawasaki’s expansion in China.

Going forward, Kawasaki Robotics will fully support the joint venture to build it into a cornerstone for the automation, intelligent and digital transformation of China’s manufacturing sector.

Su Yan, Director of Foshan Bureau of Commerce, delivered a speech. He remarked that the establishment of Ronsaki Robot marks a milestone for the enterprise and a vital initiative for Foshan’s industrial transformation and upgrading.

He stated that Rossum Robot, a key robotics enterprise in Foshan, has evolved from a fledgling system integrator into a comprehensive smart manufacturing service provider since its founding in 2013, with remarkable growth. As one of the global robotics leaders, Kawasaki Robotics developed Japan’s first industrial robot in 1969 and serves as a technology pioneer in the worldwide robotics industry.

It is reasonable to believe that drawing on Kawasaki’s over 50 years of robotics expertise and Rossum’s experience in automation integration, the two parties will leverage advanced technologies and production quality management systems to develop premium industrial robots and deliver high-value engineering services. This will drive the development and upgrading of smart manufacturing in Foshan and the broader South China region.

To accelerate the automation, intelligent and digital transformation of local enterprises, the Foshan government will invest 10 billion yuan over the next three years to support businesses in advancing toward high-quality smart manufacturing.

Naoyuki Abe, Commercial Consul of the Consulate General of Japan in Guangzhou, pointed out in his address that Foshan has long stood at the forefront of China’s manufacturing sector and maintained sound cooperation with Japan.

The adoption of industrial robots is essential for manufacturing to lift efficiency, pursue transformation and achieve intelligent upgrading. Kawasaki Heavy Industries is one of Japan’s prominent manufacturers of industrial robots, while Rossum Robot ranks among China’s strong manufacturing enterprises. The Consulate General of Japan in Guangzhou expects this powerful alliance to deliver win-win results, bringing more high-quality industrial robots to the market and contributing to the development of local and global manufacturing.

Boasting a sound business environment and strong government support, Chencun Town, Shunde, “plants phoenix trees to attract golden phoenixes”. The joint venture stands as a major achievement of industrial transformation driven by park renovation, as well as a great opportunity for its future growth.

Kawasaki Robotics and Rossum Robot have maintained extensive, in-depth cooperation for years. As early as 2017, they jointly set up their first engineering R&D center in China. This deeper strategic partnership serves as solid proof of their long-standing smooth collaboration. Combining Kawasaki’s robot body technology and Rossum’s smart manufacturing system integration capabilities, the powerful alliance is expected to achieve the “1+1>2” effect.
